Gujarat: 117 roads closed in the state due to heavy rains, 14 state highways closed for traffic

177 roads have been closed in the state due to heavy rains. Apart from this, 14 state highways, 3 national highways are also closed due to rain. Among the roads which are closed, 152 Panchayat owned roads are closed. Apart from this, 8 other roads were closed for vehicular traffic.

69 roads were closed in Bharuch district, the highest in the state. 22 roads of Panchmahal and 20 roads of Vadodara district have been closed. 13 roads of Dahod district are also closed for traffic.

It rained in Mehsana district for the second consecutive day. Some roads in the district were closed due to heavy rains. The underpass of Becharaji-Harij Road was flooded. Vehicular movement was affected due to water filling in the underpass. Drivers of more than 10 villages of Becharaji taluka had to face problems.

Agricultural crops have been damaged due to heavy rains in Banaskantha district. Due to rain, fields in various talukas were flooded. In which the fields of Aseda village of Kankerge have been submerged. There is a fear of damage to standing crops due to water logging in the fields. There is a possibility of damage to vegetable crops including flowers, brinjal and okra due to rain. Not only this, there is a possibility of damage to other crops including castor, groundnut, cotton etc. There is a possibility of damage to millet and jowar crops due to continuous rains for the last two-three days.

 

Till 6 pm on Monday (September 18), rain was recorded in 238 districts of Gujarat. Visavadar received maximum rainfall of 12 inches, 28 talukas received 2.5 to 8 inches of rainfall. Half to two inches of rain has been recorded in 75 districts. Life has become disrupted due to heavy rains. More than eight districts of Saurashtra have received rainfall ranging from 2 to 12 inches. A high level meeting was held in Gandhinagar on Monday to review the flood situation in Gujarat.

The weather department has predicted heavy rain in Patan, Kutch and Morbi districts. There may also be heavy rain in some areas of Saurashtra and South Gujarat tomorrow. Heavy rains are likely to continue in Kutch and Saurashtra areas of Gujarat tomorrow also. The Meteorological Department has also issued a red alert in view of heavy rain in Panchmahal, Dahod, Kheda, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Banaskantha and Sabarkantha districts yesterday.
