New Delhi: The Central Government has taken strict action against some websites leaking Aadhar Card and PAN Card data. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology issued a statement on Thursday saying that the government has blocked several websites leaking sensitive data related to Aadhaar and PAN cards.

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had found security flaws in these websites. After this the government has taken steps to block these websites.

According to the statement issued by the government, “It has come to the notice of the Ministry that some websites are leaking sensitive personal information related to Aadhaar and PAN cards of Indian citizens. The government has taken this matter seriously.” Immediate action has been taken to block these websites while giving utmost priority to cyber security, behavioral and personal data protection.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has accused the police officers concerned of violating the provision prohibiting public display of Aadhaar-related details under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016 . A complaint has been lodged with the statement saying, “CERT-In's analysis of these websites has highlighted some security vulnerabilities. “The concerned website owners have been advised to take measures at their own level to strengthen the ICT infrastructure and fix the vulnerabilities.” ,

Under the Act, any adversely affected party can approach the adjudicating authority to file a complaint and demand compensation. IT Secretaries of the States have been authorized as the adjudicating authority. Last week, a cyber security researcher had claimed that Star Health Insurance officials had sold the data of 31 lakh customers.
