Announcing the new rates, Electricity Regulatory Commission Chairman Arvind Kumar and Member Sanjay Singh said that there will be no increase in electricity rates in Uttar Pradesh for the fifth year and the rates will remain the same. Electricity companies had proposed an increase in electricity tariffs in lieu of the proposed difference of Rs 11203 crore. The total ARR shown by the power companies of about Rs 1 lakh 1784 crore has also been reduced significantly. This year also there has been a surplus of Rs 1944 crore. The Commission has also made it clear that no cost of installing smart meters will be passed on to the consumers. The regulatory commission has rejected the proposed charge of Rs 50 for connecting and disconnecting connections on smart prepaid meters.
Consumers with 3 kilowatt capacity will also get 3 phase connection: Now consumers with 3 kilowatt power will also be able to get 3 phase connection. Till now this facility was available only to those with 5 KW connection. With this important decision, 3 kW consumers will be able to get better electricity options. This year, electricity rates have been fixed on the basis of 10.67 percent line loss.
Green Energy Rate Reduction: The Commission has reduced the Green Energy (Green Tariff) from Rs 0.44 per unit to Rs 0.36 per unit for the financial year 2023-24, which will promote the use of green energy and make it affordable for consumers.
Council said, this decision is a victory for consumers
The State Electricity Consumer Council has described the decision of not increasing electricity rates as a victory for the consumers of the state. Chairman of the Council and member of the State Advisory Committee, Awadhesh Verma said that the new electricity rate issued by the Electricity Regulatory Commission will be studied. After this, as a further strategy, a review PIL will be filed before the Commission by adding the surplus of Rs 33122 crore already released by the consumers and the current surplus and the struggle will be launched once again to reduce the electricity rates. This struggle will continue until electricity rates are reduced.
