Amid the rains across the country, a glacier broke near the Kedarnath temple in Uttarakhand on Sunday. A large piece of ice slid over the Gandhi Sarovar on the hill behind the temple at 5 am. However, there was no loss of life. Earlier on Saturday, 8 vehicles were washed away due to the rising water level of the Ganges river in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
A lot of snow fell from the hill. The snow started freezing on the hill. After this, there was a stir in Kedarnagari. Avalanches kept coming for a long time. However, avalanches are not a new thing on this hill. Avalanches keep coming here from time to time.
Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar said that on Sunday morning there was a snowstorm on the hill above Gandhi Sarovar. However, no damage has been caused by this snowfall. He said that such avalanches keep happening on this hill. Such incidents happen when there is heavy snowfall. There is no damage from these.
On the other hand, environmentalist Jagat Singh Jangli has called this incident a matter of concern. He said that there is a need to think about such incidents happening continuously in the Himalayan region. Such incidents are happening due to the ongoing construction work in the Himalayan region and irregular flights of helicopter companies. In such a situation, there is a need to save the Himalayan region in time.
