France beat Argentina and qualified for the semi-finals

Paris, August 3 (HS). Jean-Philippe Mateta scored a solitary goal as France defeated Argentina 1-0 on Saturday (Indian time) to qualify for the semi-finals of the men's football competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Jean-Philippe Mateta gave his team a 1-0 lead by scoring a header in the fifth minute of the match, which remained till the end of the match.

However, in the 83rd minute of the match, Michael Olise scored a brilliant goal, which was declared a foul. The ball reached Olise inside the box from the right flank. He took a shot, which hit the defender and went into the goal. But this goal was considered a foul and was disallowed. Despite this, the host country kept its composure for the last ten minutes of the match and ensured the lead.

After winning the match, France centre-back Loic Bede said, “It was an important match and we emerged winners.”

Let us tell you that during the match, there was a lot of altercation between the players of both the countries and when the match ended, it turned into a fight, however, after the intervention of the match referee and officials, everything became normal.

France will face Egypt in the semi-finals on August 5, while Spain will take on Morocco in the other last four match.
