Police claimed to have successfully solved the double murder case by arresting four suspects. The deceased have been identified as Gulshan Gupta (23) of New Gagan Nagar and his friend Rahul Singh (24) of Maya Nagar, who were missing since September 16. Their bodies were recovered from a drain on Monday.
According to police, the two were attacked with sharp weapons at a guest house near Hundal Chowk on Tajpur Road. Subsequently, their bodies were wrapped in blankets and thrown into a nearby drain.
During a press conference held here today, Commissioner of Police (CP) Mandeep Singh Sidhu revealed that the arrested suspects have been identified as prime suspect Amar Yadav, Abhishek Kumar of Jeevan Nagar and Aniket, while among the persons caught Was a teenager.
According to the police, Rahul was engaged to a woman who was friends with suspect Amar Yadav. When Rahul came to know about the friendship between them through a social networking site, he confronted Amar and asked him to stay away from the woman. However, Amar insists that she should break her engagement with him. Amidst the rising tension, Amar had asked Rahul to go to the guest house with Gulshan to resolve the matter, where Amar and his associates murdered Rahul.
Subsequently, the suspects decided to kill Gulshan as they feared that he might reveal the incident to the police, which would lead to their arrest.
On September 17, Gulshan’s mother Soni Devi lodged a police complaint that Rahul had come to her house on the evening of September 16. After this Rahul and Gulshan went somewhere but his son never returned home. During the investigation he had expressed suspicion of Amar’s involvement. Later, the police caught Amar near Sherpur Chowk, who was trying to escape.
The police claimed that they successfully solved the case within 16 hours of receiving the complaint.
They seized a scooter, a sharp weapon, an iron rod and two mobile phones from the suspects near the garbage dump site. A case has been registered against him under sections 302 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Daba police station.
