Washington: Former US President Jimmy Carter died in his 100th year yesterday (Sunday) in his hometown Plains, Georgia. He was the longest-lived former US President.

He was undergoing treatment in a hospital in Plains for the last two years. A little more than a year ago, when his wife Rosalynn died at the age of 96, he said goodbye to his wife while sitting in a wheelchair during the funeral. Their married life was long and intact, which is rare in the Western world.
