Dehradun, 1 April (HS). An international conference on Theravada Buddhism and social participation was organized on Monday at Hyatt Centric located on Rajpur Road. In this, an important conference of Buddhist monks and scholars from 11 countries started. The program was inaugurated by the chief guest, former President of India Ramnath Kovind. The presence of Governor of Uttarakhand Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (Seni), President of International Theravada Sangha Council Dr. Lag Mahanayak Mahathera and Dr. MK Autani graced the event.
Chief guest former President Ramnath Kovind shared deep insights into Theravada Buddhism and the transformative power of Vipassana meditation. The former President explained the timeless wisdom inherent in the teachings of Theravada Buddhism, which deeply resonated with the audience and ignited collective reflection on its enduring relevance amid the complexities of modern life.
The President not only highlighted the philosophical underpinnings of Buddhism but also emphasized on the practical application of Vipassana meditation in contemporary Indian society. He eloquently expressed the deep impact of this ancient practice in promoting inner peace, clarity of mind and spiritual growth, thereby paving the way to tackle the challenges of the modern world with flexibility and equanimity.Further, the former President praised Amrit Information was also given about the historical Bodhgaya Mahabodhi tree planted in the garden during his tenure.
Apart from underlining the importance of Vipassana meditation, the former President highlighted the importance of the 10-day Vipassana course and its ability to catalyze profound personal transformation and inner awakening. Apart from this, the former President appreciated the dedicated efforts of Dr. MK Autani. Autani is engaged in the preservation and promotion of Buddhist art and culture of India.

The Governor said that by adopting the basic principles of Buddha under the guidance of Mahatmas and Gurus of Buddhism, it gives people a feeling of happiness, peace, and self-surrender. The practice of meditation proves to be a guiding door for the followers of this religion to make their life meaningful and prosperous.
Special guest religious leader Dr. Log Mahanayaka Mahathera expressed his gratitude to former President Ram Nath Kovind for his unwavering support of Buddhism while recognizing his enduring commitment to the promotion and preservation of Indian Buddhism on both national and global platforms. .
