Five-year plan has been started once again in Pakistan after 30 years. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formally inaugurated the National Economic Transformation Plan 2024-29, named ‘Udan Pakistan: Domestic National Economic Plan’, on December 31, 2024. Pakistan, which has been facing economic challenges for the past few years, aims to focus on the ‘five E’s’, which include e-governance, environment, equality, exports and energy.
Objective of five year plan
According to Pakistan’s newspaper Dawn, under this plan the Shehbaz Sharif government will focus on the following areas in the next five years:
- Export
- E-Pakistan
- Equity and Empowerment
- Environment, Food and Water Security
- Energy and Infrastructure
Pre-Strategy and Collaborative Approach
Earlier, in April, Prime Minister Sharif had called for a comprehensive five-year strategy to double the country’s exports and stressed the importance of a collaborative approach with successful entrepreneurs and stakeholders. He had asked the Trade Ministry to take steps in this direction.

At the ceremony of re-launching the five-year plan, PM Sharif praised Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and said that due to their efforts, Pakistan’s economic development strategy could be prepared. “Over the past nine months, we have faced many challenges and achieved macroeconomic stability through the efforts of the federal and provincial governments,” he said. “This is the beginning of a long journey that will require sacrifice and hard work.”
