Bhadohi, 17 July (HS). There was an encounter between the police and the criminals in the district late on Tuesday night. Five criminals were arrested in this action. Three criminals injured by bullets have been admitted to the hospital. These people had targeted a bullion trader twelve days ago. The police had registered a case against 10 people in this case.
Superintendent of Police Dr. Meenakshi Katyayan said that the Gopiganj and Suriyawan police teams came to know that the criminals were going to sell the stolen jewellery on Tuesday night. On this, the police was checking vehicles near the primary school Chaksahaba on the Kathuta-Suriyawan road at night.
Meanwhile, when some people were seen coming on a bike, the police tried to stop them, but the criminals started firing at the police team. The police fired in self-defense, in which three criminals got shot in their legs, they have been admitted for treatment. A total of five criminals have been arrested in the encounter. They have been identified as Govind Patel, Deepak Saroj, Govinda alias Govind Gautam, Umesh Pal and Adarsh Vishwakarma. Four kilograms of looted silver, Rs 10,000, three pistols of 315 bore, three live and three empty cartridges, three motorcycles have been recovered from the possession of these criminals.
The Superintendent of Police said that Vikas Soni, a resident of Mahuari (Dhanipur) of Gopiganj Kotwali, was going home in the evening after closing his jewellery shop near Dhantulsi Mor on July 7. On Dhanipur Road, four unknown miscreants riding two motorcycles snatched a bag full of jewellery and fled towards Jangiganj. The police had registered a case in this matter. A reward of Rs 25,000 each was declared on the miscreants who carried out the jewellery robbery. The police team that catches the robbers in the encounter will be given the declared reward amount.
