Kolkata, 13 November (HS). On Wednesday, a sudden fire broke out in Sandhya Bazaar near Anees Shah Road in South Kolkata, creating chaos in the area.
Fire brigade officials said that the fire was reported around 3:20 pm, immediately after which 16 fire tenders were sent to the spot.
According to eyewitnesses, as soon as the fire broke out, there was panic among the shopkeepers and customers present in the market, and everyone started running towards a safe place. The local police officer informed that there is no news of anyone being injured or trapped in this fire, due to which people have heaved a sigh of relief.
Efforts are being made by the fire brigade staff to control the fire, but due to dense population and narrow roads, they are facing a lot of difficulties. The intensity of the fire was so high that a thick layer of smoke engulfed the surrounding area, reducing visibility.
The cause of the fire has not been known yet, but fire brigade officials believe that the accident could have happened due to short circuit. Nearby shopkeepers have also expressed fear of huge loss due to this fire. The administration has taken all necessary steps to control the situation, and has advised the local people to avoid going there.
Traffic in the area has been affected due to the fire, and police have temporarily stopped traffic in some areas around Anees Shah Road as a safety precaution.
