Indian team’s star player Virat Kohli on Saturday decided to step down from Test captaincy. Virat took this responsibility in the year 2014 after the retirement of Mahendra Singh and captained the team in 68 matches in seven years. The team was defeated in the Test series against South Africa that ended on Friday. Days later, Kohli decided to step down from the captaincy.

Indian fans were heartbroken after this decision of Kohli. From veterans to actors, politicians all expressed their disappointment over Kohli’s decision on Twitter and also congratulated him for his excellent captaincy.

The BCCI thanked Virat Kohli for his excellent captaincy. Sharing Kohli’s tweet, he wrote, ‘BCCI wishes Virat Kohli all the best for his leadership. He took the team to new heights under his captaincy. He captained the team in 68 matches and got more than 40 victories.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor tweeted and wrote, ‘No fan wanted you to go like this. after the defeat. Your enthusiasm as a captain, your presence affects a lot. He always led the team by coming forward on his own and taught the team to take responsibility. We will miss you.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah tweeted, “Congratulations to Virat Kohli on his wonderful captaincy stint. You made the team a fearless and fit team which used to win in and outside the country as well. Wins against Australia and England will always be special.
