Encephalitis control is the most successful model in the country and the world: Yogi Adityanath

Gorakhpur, 15 February (HS). Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that due to the efforts of the double engine government, encephalitis has been completely controlled and eliminated in eastern Uttar Pradesh in six-seven years. Its abolition is yet to be announced. Encephalitis control is a successful model in the country and the world. The center of this successful model prepared by making the health department the nodal department is BRD Medical College of Gorakhpur.

On Thursday, Chief Minister Yogi was addressing a function organized to commemorate the laying of the foundation stone of the new administrative building for MBBS students at BRD Medical College to be built at a cost of Rs 60 crore and the inauguration of the solar rooftop plant in the medical college. The Chief Minister said that today we have succeeded in saving innocent children by completely controlling encephalitis, which causes 1200 to 1500 deaths every year. The manpower and resources that were naturally required for that, we are using in making quality of health available to other people also. He said that BRD Medical College became the center point of the successful model of encephalitis control because it bore the maximum burden. He said that we have seen the peak of encephalitis and today we are seeing it coming to an end.

Even had to face media trial while making the model

Chief Minister Yogi said that from 1977-78 to 2017, governments did not even think about eliminating encephalitis. After becoming the Chief Minister in 2017, I thought of ending it, preparing a model for its eradication. In this connection, a cleanliness campaign was conducted among the Kushinagar Musahars. Explained them the methods of cleanliness and informed them about the use of soap. Then there was a media trial on me for three days. It was ridiculed in the media that a Chief Minister was distributing soap to the poor. But, when Corona came, the media colleagues who did the trial also understood the importance of soap and cleanliness.

Cleanliness in itself is the prevention of many diseases

The Chief Minister said that focus on cleanliness is the solution to many diseases. When it was expanded in mission mode towards eliminating encephalitis, results emerged. View results from 1997 98 to 2017 today. Saw the peak of the disease and today it is ending.

BRD Medical College has seen many ups and downs.

Chief Minister Yogi said that BRD Medical College has its own glorious history. This medical college has also seen many ups and downs. We have also seen the period when this medical college used to be the only health center in Eastern UP and that too was struggling with lack of resources. There were neither doctors, nor paramedics, nor nursing staff nor the manpower required for other tasks. This medical college faced recognition crisis in 1997-98. Then extra efforts had to be made. MCI once again virtually withdrew recognition in 1998–99. Then I went to Delhi with the then Medical Education Minister and got an affidavit that we would fulfill the needs here. Then it was said that BRD Medical College is the backbone of health services for this eastern Uttar Pradesh. If you stop it, everything will stop. It will be difficult to control the thousands of deaths that occur due to encephalitis. At that time the government was careless and ignored. At that time the faculty tried their level best but the resources were very less. Four patients were made to lie on each bed. The toilet of Pedia ward was choked. Appealed to the government as MP for reforms, raised voice in Parliament. Discussing the changes that have taken place here after 2017, the Chief Minister said that now a Pediatrics Institute has been started here. Pedia ward is well equipped and endowed with infrastructure. Regional Medical Research Center has also become functional in the same campus. Super specialty block has been completed. At one time the seats were reduced to half, there was a crisis in recognition. Whereas today the government itself is coming to you and providing infrastructure for increased seats.

BRD competes with AIIMS Gorakhpur

The Chief Minister said that BRD Medical does not compete with any medical college. It has progressed a lot. Now it has to compete with AIIMS Gorakhpur. The quality of both is running parallel. If we make a little effort, like SGPGI Lucknow and AIIMS Delhi, BRD Medical College and AIIMS Gorakhpur will become competitors of each other. For this there should be exchange of knowledge between the two.

The solution will have to be found through patience and study.

Chief Minister Yogi urged the doctors and students of medical education to say that in adverse circumstances they may be overloaded with work but they should work without losing patience. Only then can one become a good doctor. He said that every patient has his own history, family background, economic, socio-geographical circumstances. If you study well by noting them, you will be able to bring revolutionary changes in the medical field. He said that along with eastern Uttar Pradesh, patients from Bihar and Nepal Terai also come to BRD Medical College in large numbers. The study will help you understand the background of all this. Patience and study will yield solutions. He called upon the physicians to engage with innovation and research.

Now is the time for clean and green energy

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that now we are moving towards clean and green energy with a new model. There is a need for clean and green energy future. When his government was formed in 2017, PM Modi had given this mantra. Following this, the government has installed 16 lakh street lights in the state without spending any money. Due to this, electricity is also being saved and carbon emissions are also being reduced. Success is being achieved in controlling the green house effect. He said that the government has made a policy that the electricity remaining after its use will be purchased from the solar panel installer and the amount will be reimbursed to him. He appreciated the lead taken by BRD Medical College in setting up rooftop solar plant. CM Yogi said that PM Modi's vision is that by 2070 the country will completely move towards clean and green energy.
