IPL 2025: The team's head coach Rahul Dravid has also been given a lot of credit for leading India to a spectacular victory in the T20 World Cup 2024. However, now his tenure as the head coach of the Indian team is over and Gambhir has taken over. After retiring from national duty, Dravid was now expected to take up the role of head coach in the IPL and teams including KKR had also approached Dravid in this regard. However, Dravid may rejoin his old team.
Amidst speculations of a Dravid-Gambhir swap between the Indian team and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), now news is coming that Dravid may rejoin his old franchise Rajasthan Royals. It is being told that Dravid is in talks with the team owners for the post of head coach of Rajasthan Royals and the final decision may come soon.
Old relationship between Rahul and RR:
Rahul Dravid has a long history with Rajasthan Royals. In 2013, Dravid was the captain of this team and he also led the team to the playoffs. Later in 2014 and 2015, Rahul Dravid also played the role of team mentor for RR and the team finished fourth in the IPL points table.
However, since then i.e. since 2015, Rahul Dravid has been associated with the BCCI. After serving as the head coach of the Indian Under-19 and India A teams, he also became the president at the NCA and eventually took over as the head coach of the Indian men's senior team from October 2021.
Currently, Kumar Sangakkara is the head coach of Rajasthan Royals. It is not yet clear whether the franchise will retain Kumar Sangakkara or remove him after Dravid's arrival.
