Ghaziabad, June 18 (HS). The Health Department celebrated World Club Foot Day on Tuesday at the District MMG Hospital in collaboration with Anushka Foundation. On this occasion, information was given about congenital deformities.
District Hospital Ortho Surgeon Dr. Ravindra Singh Rana, DEIC Manager Vikas Kumar and Program Executive Preeti Khanduri from Anushka Foundation gave detailed information about the medical management of club foot.
Ortho surgeon Dr Ravindra Rana said that clubfoot is a congenital deformity which affects one child out of every 800 newborns. Every year 33 thousand children are born with this deformity in the country. If a child suffering from clubfoot gets timely treatment, he can stand on his feet and live his life like normal children.
The NGO Anushka Foundation for Eliminating Clubfoot has been working with the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram for the past five years. Clubfoot is one of the nine birth defects prioritised by the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram.
Program Executive Preeti Khanduri said that the organization is treating more than 150 children suffering from clubfoot in the district. All children suffering from clubfoot can be easily treated using the Ponseti method.
He said that if clubfoot is not treated on time, the child can become disabled for life. If left untreated, the affected children are at a higher risk of discrimination, neglect, mental health problems, illiteracy, physical and sexual abuse. No specific reason for clubfoot has been found yet. The mother or father has no role in this problem. This deformity is neither caused by eclipse nor is it transmitted from mother to child.
He said that the organization provides treatment for this, for which there is no charge. With the help of Anushka Foundation, children suffering from club foot are treated every Tuesday at the district MMG hospital. For free treatment of club foot, you can contact 7304569194.
