New Delhi: A doctor in China performed a surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from the lungs of a patient admitted in a hospital five thousand kilometers away. The doctor performed this remote surgery with the help of a 5-G surgical robot made in China. However, such remote surgery was done in India before China.
In the first remote operation of its kind in China, the surgeon was in Shanghai while the patient was in a hospital in Xinjiang autonomous region of western China. After performing this remote surgery on July 13, Dr. Luo Qingkun, leader of Shanghai Chest Hospital, said that due to the success of this surgery, patients living in very small villages will not need to go to hospitals in big cities for operations. Big doctors sitting in city hospitals will perform such operations with the help of robots. However, before China performed remote surgery, such surgeries were performed in India.
According to the Shanghai Daily, a hospital in Shanghai has successfully carried out the first robot-assisted remote surgery in China. The hospital not only treats chest and lung diseases using cutting-edge methods, but also continuously conducts research into how robotic technology can be used in the field of medical treatment.
In India too, Dr. Sudhir Srivastava has developed an indigenous surgical robot system. With its help, the doctor performs the operation with the help of the robot even when he is away from the patient. The robot has five detachable arms. Heart operations are also being performed with the help of robots.
The Chinese doctor travelled 5,000 kms. In India, Dr S K Raval of Gurugram travelled 40 kms before performing the surgery remotely. A patient admitted to a hospital in the remote Rohini area of Delhi was operated upon.
