Turkish Parliament: There was a lot of commotion in the Turkish Parliament on Friday. Clashes also broke out between the ruling party and opposition MPs in the Parliament. Video footage shows ruling AKP party MP Ahmet Sik running to deliver a lectern and dozens of others joining the fray.

Controversy erupted over calling the ruling party a terrorist organization

According to the information, an internal dispute between the ruling party and the opposition started during a heated debate on an opposition MP who is in jail. Opposition MP Sik, who called the ruling party a terrorist organization, was punched by an AKP MP. With this, dozens of MPs started fighting. Some tried to stop others. A female MP was injured in this fight. Blood was also found on the white stairs of the Speaker's platform. Another opposition member is reported to be injured.

Atale is serving sentence in jail

Atalay was sentenced to 18 years in prison in 2022 for allegedly trying to overthrow the government by organising the nationwide Gezi Park protests in 2013. Atalay was elected to parliament in May last year representing the Workers' Party of Turkey (TIP).

Parliament adjourned after uproar

Parliament disqualified Atalay. Turkey's Constitutional Court declared his expulsion illegal on August 1. After the controversy, the Deputy Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the Parliament. After this incident, the ruling party and the opposition have blamed each other.
