Tunis. The floods in Libya have created a scene of devastation all around. Thousands of people have died. Many cities have been submerged due to dam breaking. Darna city of the country is in bad condition due to flood water. Authorities in eastern Libya have ordered journalists to leave the flood-hit city of Darna. A government minister told news agency Reuters on Tuesday that a large number of journalists were obstructing the work of rescue teams.
“This is an effort to create better conditions for rescue teams to do their work more smoothly and effectively,” the civil aviation minister of the administration that runs eastern Libya told Reuters news agency by phone.
Libya’s Darna city has been devastated by flood waters
The Libyan coastal city of Darna has been destroyed by flood waters. 891 buildings were destroyed due to waves of water several meters high caused by heavy rains and the subsequent collapse of two dams. Apart from this, some parts of 211 buildings have been destroyed. Along with this, there are 398 buildings which are filled with soil. Due to all these problems the local people are facing a lot of problems. It will take several weeks to make these houses habitable.
More than 25 percent of the buildings in the city have been damaged. More than 40 thousand people have become homeless. Apart from this, roads, bridges and culverts have also been broken and damaged.
