India Maldives Relations: There was a sour relationship between India and Maldives for some time, but now the relations between the two countries are improving again. Now the Indian government has given further relief to Maldives during this financial year and has allowed the export of essential goods from two major ports of the country. These two major ports are Kandla and Visakhapatnam. Both these ports are considered restricted category. Thus, now essential goods can be exported to Maldives from a total of six ports of India.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) issued a statement saying that Visakhapatnam and Kandla ports have been included in the list of approved ports for export of essential goods to Maldives for the financial year 2024-25. Which is currently included in the restricted category
Trade between Maldives and India increased
Bilateral trade between Maldives and India has also increased this year. Trade between the two countries was US$ 973.37 million in the year 2022-23, which has increased to US$ 978.56 million in the year 2023-24. India's exports were US$ 476.75 million in the year 2022-23 which has increased to US$ 892 million. Engineering and industrial products, radar equipment, rock boulders, aggregates, medicines, pharmaceuticals, cement, fruits, vegetables, rice, spices and poultry products etc. are exported from India. Apart from this, scrap metal is mainly imported from Maldives to India.
