Lucknow, 22 June (HS). Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held an important meeting of the Energy Department on Saturday. During this, he observed the presentation made by the department. CM Yogi said that it is very important to increase awareness among people to pay electricity bills on time.
He said that just as people pay their mobile bills on time, they should be encouraged to pay their electricity bills on time. For this, the department should prepare a strong mechanism. CM Yogi laid special emphasis on installing smart meters in the state and said that the public should be prepared for this. Smart meters are the need of the hour.
The Chief Minister directed that electricity bills should reach every consumer's homes on time and without any error. It is very important to make the meter reader accountable for this.
He said that consumers should be made aware about OTS so that they are well aware of the facility available in depositing the outstanding electricity bills.
Consumers should not be harassed in the name of electricity bills under any circumstances. He said that we have spent our first five years in developing infrastructure, now we have to focus all our attention on maintaining quality.
Chief Minister Yogi said that if there is a power cut due to maintenance, it is necessary to give prior information to consumers about when and for how long the power supply will be disrupted. For this, use social media as much as possible.
He said that the smart meter exercise should be carried forward at a fast pace. This is very important for ease of living, which will provide relief to genuine consumers.
The officials told the Chief Minister that there has been an increase in the hours of electricity supply in the state. Despite the severe heat and except for local faults, the government has been successful in providing 24-hour electricity supply since March 15. There has been no shortage of electricity anywhere in the state.
According to officials, there are 3.45 crore electricity connections in the state. At the same time, 30 lakh connections have increased in two years. It was told that till now in 2024, revenue of 70 thousand crores has been received, which is 17 percent more than last year. Apart from this, consumer turnover is about 92 percent in urban areas and 51 percent in rural areas.
The Chief Minister was told that 40 percent of the electricity bills in the state are being paid online, 32 percent from the counter and 30 percent through various e-wallets. Strengthening the online services, facilities ranging from increasing the load to changing the name and address are being provided through the app. Along with this, an average of 7 SMS are also sent every month for depositing the electricity bill.
Maintenance month was celebrated in October-November 2023, which has yielded good results. Officials said that the average demand for electricity has increased in the state in the months of April, May and June. In normal days during the summer season, the demand is 27 to 28 thousand MW, whereas in the scorching heat these days, the demand has reached 33 to 35 thousand MW. It is expected to decrease after the rains.
The Chief Minister was told that the work of setting up 10 units of 5255 MW is progressing at a fast pace in the state. Apart from this, work is also going on on three big projects of 5120 MW namely Obra D, Anpara E and Meja II. Work has been done to bring down the transmission loss of electricity to a minimum of 3 percent in the state.
The Chief Minister was told that many big projects of the department are going to start in Noida, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Kanpur and Lucknow in the state. Apart from this, in the first phase of the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Project, 1 crore solar roof tops are to be installed in the country while 25 lakh solar roof tops are to be installed in UP. For this, 16 lakh 97 thousand registrations have been completed so far. The Chief Minister said that the PM Surya Ghar Yojana should be implemented at a fast pace.
