The information given by the Union Food Ministry is shocking that under the authentication process, 5.8 crore ration cards have been found to be fake across the country. For authentication of ration cards, their Aadhaar cards were not only matched, but KYC i.e. customer identification process was also followed. It is true that the number of ration card holders in our country is very high and this can be understood from the fact that 80 crore people are given free ration under the Public Distribution System i.e. PDS, yet 5.8 crore ration cards were found to be fake. Let’s go. Going is serious. This means that some people resort to making fake ration cards. There is a possibility that there may be some more fake ration cards also. This doubt is because all the ration cards have not yet been merged with the Aadhaar card. Similarly, not all ration cards have been digitized. According to a figure, only 64 percent of the total PDS beneficiaries could be verified through KYC. At a time when free food grains are being given to a large number of ration card holders, it is important to ensure that only eligible persons can avail this facility. In this sequence, it should also be seen that some people who are not eligible for ration card have not got ration card for free treatment. In fact, identification of correct beneficiaries should be ensured in all other schemes including PDS because it is not hidden from anyone that disabled people are successful in availing its benefits in other schemes also. The problem is not just that fake ration cards are easily made. The issue is also that now fake Aadhar cards have also started being made.
Even if fake ration and Aadhaar cards are identified sooner or later, then why would it happen that someone gets a fake ration card or Aadhaar card? Fake Aadhaar cards of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas are also found. Keep in mind that once someone makes a fake Aadhaar card, it becomes easy to create other identity cards through it. It is very important to stop this process. Along with this, it should also be ensured that whatever government schemes are there, they should be implemented in such a way that people living anywhere in the country can get their benefits. This is what is happening with one country, one ration card. When this can happen under the PDS scheme then it should happen under other schemes also because now a large number of people have started living away from their villages and cities due to job, business, education.
