This barcode. This provision has been implemented for the top 300 medical brands, which include widely used drugs such as analgesics, pain relievers, anti-platelets, vitamin supplements, blood sugar lowering drugs and contraceptives. The brands nominated by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) for the implementation of this provision include Dolo, Saridon Fabiflu, Ecosprin, Limcee, Sumo, Calpol, Corex Syrup, Unwanted 72 and Thyronorm. This provision has been implemented on the basis of annual turnover data of drugs collected by research institutes of the pharma sector by testing various brands of drugs.

Earlier, the Union Health Ministry had directed the Pharmaceutical Department to prepare a list of 300 medicines so that necessary amendments could be made in the rules applicable to these medicines. It is worth mentioning that the QR code on the brands can easily identify the origin of the respective medicines and the possibility of availability of adulterated or fake medicines can be reduced.
