Cold wave in 17 states, IMD warns of heavy rains

There is bone-chilling cold across the country. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of active Western Disturbance on December 27 and has issued a warning of severe cold wave, heavy rain, snowfall and dense fog in more than 15 states till December 25. Chillai-Kalan is starting from today in Jammu and Kashmir, under which there will be severe cold for 40 days. There may be rain in many parts of Rajasthan between 25th and 27th December.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a low pressure area over the South West Bay of Bengal, which is likely to move northwards. A depression will lie centered over west central Bay of Bengal during the next 12 hours and is likely to move north-northeastwards during the next 24 hours. Western Disturbance is active in the lower and central tropical regions, due to which a cyclonic circulation is active over low lying areas of north-western Rajasthan.

The Meteorological Department has asked fishermen to stay away from the beaches of these states for the next 5 days.

Another fresh active Western Disturbance on December 27 will affect the Western Himalayan region and adjoining plains. Due to its impact, there is a possibility of light, moderate and heavy rain in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh. The Meteorological Department has asked fishermen to stay away from the beaches of these states for the next 5 days.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of severe cold wave in some areas of Himachal Pradesh till December 24. Cold wave may continue in Himachal Pradesh on 25th and 26th December and in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat till 26th December. Dense fog may occur in the morning and evening over Himachal Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Sikkim and Bihar. There is a possibility of snowfall in isolated parts of Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand till December 24.
