CM Yogi called the decision to rename Port Blair as Sri Vijay Puram a historic decision | News India


Lucknow, 13 September (HS). Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed the decision of the Central Government to change the name of Port Blair. Chief Minister Yogi termed this decision of the Central Government as historic and said that it is in accordance with the sentiments of 140 crore Indians. It is noteworthy that the Central Government took a big decision on Friday and changed the name of Port Blair, the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, to Sri Vijay Puram.

Chief Minister Yogi wrote on Twitter, “The decision to rename Port Blair as 'Shri Vijayapuram' under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in line with the sentiments of 140 crore Indians. This historic decision, which takes forward the Prime Minister's resolve to free the country from all symbols of slavery, is a consolidated tribute from the entire country to all the martyrs and fighters of the Indian freedom struggle.”

He further said, “The name 'Shri Vijayapuram', which reflects the contribution of Andaman and Nicobar in the freedom struggle, connects us with the glorious past of our country and the sacred memories of the struggles and sacrifices of many immortal sons of Mother India like Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, 'Swatantryaveer' Veer Savarkar. Heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister for this decision in Amrit Kaal and congratulations to the people of the country.”
