Chandigarh-Shimla Highway will remain closed for two nights due to repair work at Chakki Mod.

The District Magistrate on Monday ordered closure of the highway from 11 pm to 3 am tonight as well as on September 19 to facilitate repair and restoration of Parwanoo-Dharampur section of National Highway (NH)-5 at Chakki Mor.

National Highway Authority of India officials have sought permission to close the road for four hours for two days to complete the repair work as huge piles of debris and stones are continuously sliding down the hill at Chakki Mor. Although repair work had been going on since the last fortnight, little progress was made during the day in view of the influx of heavy vehicles.

The district police has advised motorists to use main roads including Parwanoo-Jangshu, Kumarhatti-Bhojnagar-Kamali, Kumarhatti-Nahan-Kala Amb, bypassing NH5.
