New Delhi: The central government has made a big announcement for the workers engaged in MNREGA. The government has released new wage rates for workers covered under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
According to the new rates, now workers in every state will get higher wages. Let us tell you that the highest wage rate has been increased in Goa. The highest increase of 10.56 percent has been recorded in Goa. Whereas in Uttar Pradesh there has been an increase of only 3.04 percent.
What is the new rate?
In Goa, workers used to get Rs 322 per day, which has now increased to Rs 356 per day.
In Karnataka, the MNREGA rate has been increased to Rs 349 from the earlier Rs 316 per day.
The daily rate of MNREGA workers in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh has increased from Rs 221 to Rs 243 per day.
The daily wages of workers included in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand have increased from Rs 230 to Rs 237.
MNREGA labor rates have increased by 7 percent in Haryana, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Kerala and Lakshadweep. Now their daily wages have increased from Rs 267.32 to Rs 285.47.
According to the official website of the Union Rural Development Ministry, there are 14.28 crore active workers in MNREGA as of January 2024.
MNREGA budget increased
On February 1, 2024, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the general budget. In this budget he announced to increase the budget of MNREGA. The budget of MNREGA was approximately Rs 60,000 crore in the financial year 2023-24, which has been increased to Rs 86,000 crore for the financial year 2024-25.
