CBI arrests Jalandhar passport officials on bribery charges

New Delhi, 16 February (HS). The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three officials of the Regional Passport Office, Jalandhar, a Regional Passport Officer (RPO) and two Assistant Passport Officers (APOs) in a bribery case.

The names of Regional Passport Officer Anup Singh and Assistant Passport Officers Hariom and Sanjay Srivastava are included in this. During the search, CBI also recovered Rs 20 lakh in cash and incriminating documents from their possession.

The CBI had registered a case against an Assistant Passport Officer of the Regional Passport Office, Jalandhar, on a complaint. The complainant alleged that he had applied for new passports in respect of his granddaughter and grandson.

When he met the accused APO to check the status of both the passports, the accused demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 from him for issuing the passports. After the complaint, the involvement of all three was found in the investigation.
