Business News: Government gives permission to export onion to six countries, government will get so much benefit

The central government on Saturday said it has given permission to send 99,150 tonnes of onions to six countries despite the export ban. The Center has also approved the export of 2,000 tonnes of specially grown white onions for the export markets of West Asia and some European countries. The government banned onion exports on December 8, 2023.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said in an official statement that the government has approved onion exports of 99,150 tonnes to “six countries – Bangladesh, UAE, Bhutan, Bahrain, Mauritius and Sri Lanka” compared to last year. . Export restrictions have been imposed to ensure adequate domestic availability in view of projected lower Kharif and Rabi production in 2023-24. National Cooperative Export Limited (NCEL), the onion exporting agency in these countries, has procured local onions for export through e-platform.

Recently the ban was lifted from Maldives

India recently lifted the ban on export of certain commodities like eggs, potatoes, onions, rice, wheat flour, sugar and pulses to Maldives during the current financial year. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification that export of these items to Maldives has been allowed under the bilateral trade agreement between the two countries during the financial year 2024-25. Maldives were allowed to export eggs, potatoes, onions, rice, wheat flour, sugar, pulses, gravel and river sand.
