Berlin, August 24 (HS). Florian Wirtz's last minute goal helped Bayer Leverkusen beat Borussia Monchengladbach 3-2 on Friday to open the 62nd Bundesliga season.
Leverkusen started the match brightly and in the 12th minute Granit Xhaka scored a brilliant goal from a distance of 20 meters to give his team a 1-0 lead.
After this, in the 38th minute, Wirtz scored from very close range to give Leverkusen a 2-0 lead. Leverkusen's team remained ahead 2-0 till the half-time.
After the interval, Monchengladbach made a great comeback and equalised the score at 2-2 through Nico Elvedi in the 59th minute and Tim Kleindienst in the 85th minute.
Leverkusen pushed for victory and were awarded a last minute penalty when Ko Itakura brought down Amin Adil in the area, which Wirtz converted to give Leverkusen a 3–2 win.
