Mahoba, 27 August (HS). In the brave land of Bundelkhand in Uttar Pradesh, the Chandel era kings built many historical monuments, where you can see a glimpse of Indian culture and rich history. One of the historical monuments is Kalyan Sagar Sarovar, which was built by the 20th Chandel king Veer Varman II in the name of his wife in memory of her. Due to mismanagement, the area of the Sarovar is continuously decreasing and people are throwing garbage in it.
is being contaminated by.
According to historians, the then Chandel king Veer Varman built Kalyan Sagar between 1242 and 1286 in memory of his wife Kalyani Devi. The beauty of Kalyan Sagar located on Kanpur-Sagar national highway was worth seeing. It has not been long, in just 10 years, Kalyan Sagar has stopped being visible from the road. Influential people have occupied the area between the lake and the national highway and built houses. There has been no dearth of people forcibly occupying the empty land of the historical lake. Within a decade, the entire locality was settled.
The aware people of the city made several complaints one by one but the politically influential people got a report of their choice prepared in the investigation and stopped the action against them. Instead of demolishing the illegal colony built on the land of the historical lake Kalyan Sagar, the administration provided electricity and CC road to the people of the locality and gave the stamp of legality to the illegal construction.
People throwing garbage in the pond
The historic lake is being encroached upon from all sides where the people living on the banks of the lake are dumping garbage in the lake due to which the water of the lake is also getting depleted. The land mafia is filling the lake land with soil and plotting it and people are also buying plots in the hope of getting cheap plots. The area of the historic lake is continuously decreasing.
Even after spending crores, the condition of the lake remains the same. The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department got the work of beautification of the historical lake Kalyan Sagar done in 2022 at a cost of Rs 98.28 lakh. To remove the water hyacinth spread in the lake, the municipality brought machines worth crores of rupees and boasted of cleaning the lake, but the condition of the historical lake remains the same and the entire lake is currently filled with water hyacinth.
Municipal Executive Officer Awadhesh Kumar informed that it is very difficult to take the lake cleaning machine from one lake to another. Currently, a cleaning campaign is being run in the historic Kirat Sagar lake. After this, the water hyacinth spread in Kalyan Sagar lake will be cleaned.
The area of the lake is decreasing day by day
Vishnurat Chaturvedi, Durga Prasad, Ram Narayan and Bhajan Lal, elders of Veer Bhumi, say that Kalyan Sagar is the pride of Mahoba. This historic lake was spread over an area of about 100 bighas. All the rituals related to marriages have been taking place in Kalyan Sagar and now the area of the lake is shrinking day by day. If the elders are to be believed, then in the coming 20 to 30 years, Kalyan Sagar will cease to exist. There is no one to save the ponds.
