Mumbai: In a unique case of fraud involving an estate agent in Borivali, two fake policemen extorted Rs 10 lakh from him by threatening to inform his wife about his extramarital affair. The fake policemen taunted the man, threatened him in strong language, forced him to sit in a police jeep parked outside and told him that he will have to pay the said amount if he wants to avoid police action.
According to the information given by the police in this regard, the 42-year-old complainant is an estate agent who deals in properties in Borivali and Bandra. He lives in Borivali with his parents, wife and children. The complainant was in contact with a female friend for about two years and both of them used to meet often. A few days ago, the complainant went to meet a female friend living in LIC Colony.
While he was returning home after meeting a female friend, two policemen stopped him, threatened to file a case against him and threaten to tell his wife about his extramarital affair.
These two fake policemen became aggressive and started pretending to drag the complainant in their jeep to the police station. Frightened by this incident, they demanded Rs 15 lakh from the complainant to settle the matter outside the police station. To avoid this trouble, the complainant took Rs 10 lakh from one of his friends and gave it to them and left.
After this incident, the complainant reached home and informed some of his friends about it and said that this is a new trick of fraudsters. After this, the estate agent who was cheated contacted Borivali-MHB police and reported the incident, based on his complaint, the police registered a case under sections 204, 308, 351 and 352 and arrested both the accused. CCTV footage revealed that both these accused are habitual offenders and have committed such frauds earlier as well.
