RBI update on Rs 2000 note: It has been more than one and a half years since Rs 2000 notes were banned in the country, but people still have thousands of crores of rupees lying around. How many pink notes have been returned so far?
According to the data shared by the Reserve Bank of India on July 1, 2024, there are Rs 7581 crore worth of Rs 2000 notes left in the market, while the latest data shows that the figure is still above Rs 7000 crore. Only Rs 320 crore of notes have been returned in the last two months. Whereas the October figures are even more shocking, which show how much the pace has slowed down.
Why are people not changing Rs 2000 notes?
There can be many reasons for this. One is lack of information, perhaps some people still do not know that they have to exchange Rs 2000 notes. Whereas for some people it may be difficult to go to the bank or post office. It is also possible that some people are hiding these notes as black money.
