Big decision of Russian government on 'Hijab' of Muslim women, ban of 1997 lifted – News India Live

Russia's gift to Muslims: Russia has given a big gift to Muslims. The Russian government has approved headscarf photos in passports. This means that now women will have the right to use photographs with headscarf or hijab in their passports. This information has been received from the Interior Ministry of Russia. This law will come into effect in the country from Sunday and will respect religious beliefs while maintaining national security.

According to the report, Muslim women cannot cover their faces much because of passport photos. Meanwhile, under the new law they will be allowed to use a photo covering their head for their passport. However, in the meantime they will not be able to use the picture with beard covered.

What impact will this change have on Russia?

This change is related to passport application, driving license, work permit and patent etc. Biyasultan Khamzaev, a member of the State Duma security and anti-corruption committee, told the Russian Parliamentary Gazette that the Russian government's decision respects the country's security as well as religious beliefs.

Banned in 1997, then outlawed in 2003

During the Soviet Union, women were not allowed to use photographs with headscarves in their passports. However, Muslim women began using such images after 1991, which was banned in 1997 and later declared illegal by the Supreme Court of Russia in 2003. Meanwhile, in a recent move, the Russian government has lifted the ban on it after 27 years.
