Big change in PM Modi's US visit, will not address the United Nations General Assembly | News India

A major change has been made in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's US visit, after which he will not address the United Nations General Assembly. PM Modi was going to address the United Nations General Assembly on 26 September, but now he will not address the General Assembly, instead Foreign Minister S Jaishankar will address the General Assembly on 28 September.

Under the first program, the PM was to visit America from September 22 to September 26, during which he was to address two more programs including the United Nations General Assembly. However, now he will address two more programs on September 22-23, but will not be a part of the General Assembly.

PM will address two meetings

While PM Modi will not address the UN General Assembly, he will address two major gatherings during his New York visit. The Prime Minister will address a massive crowd of 16,000 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island on September 22.

Along with this, PM Modi will also address the historic summit on the future of the United Nations at the headquarters of the world organization on 22 and 23 September. PM Modi was earlier scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly, but due to his busy schedule, his program has now been changed and he will return to India after participating in the programs on 22-23 September.

UN released the list

The United Nations announced the list of speakers for the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in July, according to which PM Modi was scheduled to address the General Assembly on September 26. However, a revised list of speakers was released on Friday, according to which Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar will now address the General Assembly on September 28.

When did you address the General Assembly?

PM Modi took oath at the UN body for a historic third term as India's Prime Minister in June. The PM last addressed the annual session of the UNGA in September 2021. He, however, visited the UN headquarters on June 21 last year and led the Yoga Day celebrations.

How long will the general meeting last?

This year's UN General Assembly session will begin on September 24 and continue till September 30. Brazil will be the first country to open the General Assembly and address the high-level session. After Brazil, the US will address the gathering, where President Joe Biden will speak from the UN platform ahead of the US presidential election.
