Bangladesh Home Minister apologized to the Hindu community with folded hands, the government also made this promise

Bangladesh's new Home Advisor (Home Minister) Sakhawat Hussain on Sunday apologized to the Hindu community for not providing adequate security. According to media reports, he said that it is the duty of the Muslim majority to protect the Hindu minority. He admitted failure in this responsibility. He assured the community of future security and expressed hope for improvement.

Besides, the interim cabinet made its first statement on violence against minorities on Sunday after swearing in its members on Thursday night. The statement said that attacks on religious minorities in some places have been observed with grave concern. The cabinet said it will hold an immediate meeting with representative bodies and other concerned groups to find a solution to such heinous attacks.

The government's promise
Brigadier General (Retd) Sakhawat Hussain, Home Affairs Advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, said on Monday that all necessary security will be provided during the upcoming Janmashtami celebrations of the Hindu community. According to The Daily Star, he also said that he would also recommend to the Advisory Council a three-day public holiday for Durga Puja, the biggest festival of the community in Bangladesh. Lord Krishna's birthday will be celebrated on August 26 this time. Along with this, Hussain on Monday asked the protesters to deposit all legal or illegal weapons by August 19. This also includes rifles looted from agencies during the recent violence.

According to The Daily Star newspaper, Hussain has said that if the weapon is not deposited in the nearby police stations, the officers will conduct a search operation and if it is found with anyone, a case will be registered against them. Hussain was talking to reporters after meeting members of the paramilitary force Bangladesh Ansar at the Combined Military Hospital.

Attacks on Hindus after Sheikh Hasina left the country
Here, according to PTI, Bangladeshi Hindus are facing violence and looting after Sheikh Hasina left the country and came to India after resigning from the post of Prime Minister. Many Hindu temples, houses and business establishments have been vandalized. At least two Hindu leaders associated with the Awami League party of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have been killed in the violence.

Protest by Hindu community
Thousands of members of the minority Hindu community took to the streets and staged massive protests in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka and the northeastern port city of Chittagong for the second consecutive day on Saturday, demanding security amid attacks on temples, their homes and businesses across the country. The protesters from the Hindu community are demanding setting up of special courts to expedite prosecution of those committing atrocities against minorities, 10 per cent parliamentary seats for minorities, implementation of the Minority Protection Act.

205 incidents of harassment in 52 districts
Dr Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad, a leading organisation advocating minority rights, wrote an open letter detailing 205 incidents of harassment in 52 districts since the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government on August 5, the Dhaka Tribune newspaper reported.
