T20 World Cup-2024, Matthew Wade Controversy: In the ICC T20 World Cup played between England and Australia in Barbados, Australia defeated England by 36 runs. But during the match, there was a heated argument between Australian batsman and wicketkeeper Matthew Wade and Indian umpire Nitin Menon on the issue of non-dead ball.
Learn about the case in detail
This incident happened during Australia's innings. In the 18th over, Wade stayed to bat and was ready to face leg spinner Adil Rashid on the third ball of the last over. Earlier, Wade hit a four on Rashid's second ball. Then when Rashid was tossing the ball, Wade was not ready to face the ball but the bowler threw the ball. However, he removed the ball from the bat. So according to the rules, if Wade did not play this ball, the ball would have been considered a dead ball instead of a dot. But umpire Nitin Mann did not declare it a dead ball. Unhappy with the decision, Wade reacted furiously and moved towards the umpire. In response, the umpire signaled him to return.
However, Matthew Wade scored 17 runs and remained unbeaten. In this match, Australia lost the toss and batted first and scored 201 runs for the loss of seven wickets. And the England team collapsed for just 165 runs in 20 overs. Australia won this match by 36 runs.
What does ICC rule say?
According to ICC rules, if the batsman is not ready to bowl and the ball is bowled, then the batsman has to move from his position and signal the umpire that he is not ready. In such a case, the umpire gives a dead ball. A dead ball is not considered an over.
