Are 22,000 people really being fired from Microsoft at once? Company clarified on social media claims

News India Live, Digital Desk: In today’s era, when we wake up in the morning and look at our LinkedIn or Twitter, the biggest fear is that some new news of layoff may come to light. For the last few hours, a news has been circulating very fast on the internet that the tech giant Microsoft is showing the exit door to its 22,000 employees.

Obviously, when a big number like 22,000 comes out, it creates an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty not only among Microsoft employees but in the entire IT industry. But is there complete truth in this? Or is this just another half-truth of social media?

What’s happening on social media?
In fact, some posts went viral on many social media platforms claiming that Microsoft is preparing for a huge layoff. The post even said that this cut will affect different departments and global centers of the company. Within no time, this news spread like wildfire and people started discussing whether another ‘disastrous’ phase is about to begin in the tech world?

Company Cleanliness: What is the reality?
As the noise increased, a clarification came out from the company. Clarifying these claims, Microsoft said that the news of 22,000 layoffs is false. The company clarified that from time to time changes are made in the roles as per the needs of the business, which is a normal process for any corporate organization. But the large scale numbers being reported do not contain the truth.

What often happens is that when companies release their quarterly results or plan for the new financial year, some old teams are restructured. Such small adjustment news are often exaggerated on social media.

Be careful and trust only official news
We live in a time where information travels faster than lightning, but misinformation even faster. For any employee, job security is the biggest priority. In such a situation, my suggestion is that do not believe any such big news until it is confirmed by the company’s official newsroom or any big and reliable media house.

Current status of tech sector
It is true that the last one or two years have been full of ups and downs for the tech industry. Companies like Google, Amazon and Microsoft have also done layoffs. But this does not mean that every post that goes viral is true. The tech sector is now investing more in AI and new projects, so downsizing of old roles and recruitment into new roles due to changing skills are going hand in hand.
