Paris, August 5 (HS). Indian star player Lakshya Sen had to face defeat in the bronze medal match of the men's singles badminton event at the ongoing Paris Olympics on Sunday. World number 22 player Sen was defeated by world number seven player Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia 21-12, 16-21, 11-21.
Lakshya, who is the first Indian man to reach the Olympic badminton semi-finals, made a bright start in the bronze medal match, winning the first game easily 21-12, while the Malaysian took time to find his feet.
But Lee picked up the pace from the second game onwards. Lakshya was tired and had a hand injury but made too many mistakes and couldn't move ahead. Lee found his rhythm and won the second set 21-16 and the match went into the third set.
In the deciding game, Lakshya lost his rhythm and struggled for every point, as Lee won the third game 21-11 in a one-sided fashion to claim the bronze medal, his first Olympic medal.
