India's veteran javelin thrower Annu Rani once again failed to impress at the world level and was knocked out of the qualification round of the Paris Olympics after a poor performance. The 21-year-old national record holder Rani started with 55.81 meters and could only throw 53.22 and 53.55 meters in the remaining two throws.

She finished 15th out of 16 competitors in Group A and 26th overall. Rani, who is preparing abroad for the Olympics, holds the national record of 63.82m. National record holder India's 100m hurdles athlete Jyoti Yaraji finished a disappointing seventh in her first heat and missed out on a place in the semi-finals. Yaraji finished 35th out of 40 runners in the fourth heat with a time of 13.16 seconds.

Sarvesh Kumar also could not reach the final in high jump. He finished 13th in Group-B and 25th overall. He could jump only 2.15 meters. Earlier, in the marathon racewalk mixed relay team event, Suraj Panwar and Priyanka Goswami could not complete the race. Priyanka withdrew after the fourth and final stage of the 41.4 km race.

In the final, Panghal lost to the Turkish wrestler in just 101 seconds

India's biggest medal hope in wrestling, female wrestler Panghal lost in a one-sided match against Turkey's Zeynep in the women's 53 kg weight category at the Paris Olympics with a shameful score of 0-10. The Indian wrestler could last only 101 seconds in the match. The Turkish wrestler was declared the winner on the basis of technical excellence. If Zeynep qualifies for the final, then finalist Panghal will have another chance to win a medal through repechage.
