Mumbai: Police on Monday filed a charge sheet in the court in the murder case of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui and said that gangster Anmol Bishnoi had carried out the murder through his organized crime gang to create fear.

The 4,590-page chargesheet filed in the special court names 26 arrested and three absconding accused, including Anmol Bishnoi, brother of Lawrence Bishnoi, who is serving a sentence in jail.

According to the charge sheet, Anmol Bishnoi conspired to murder Siddiqui and intended to create influence and intimidation on the criminal gang.

Apart from Anmol, other absconding accused include Mohammad Yasin Akhtar and Shubham Lonkar.

Police have so far arrested 26 accused and invoked Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime (MCOCA) against them. All the accused are currently in judicial custody.

Siddiqui (66) was shot dead by three assailants outside the office of his son Zeeshan Siddiqui in Bandra on October 12, 2024.

Police have so far recorded statements of 88 people in the case and prepared a list of 180 witnesses, which also includes former MLA and Baba Siddiqui’s son Zeeshan Siddiqui. Apart from this, five pistols, six magazines and 35 mobile phones have been seized.

Investigators had earlier told the court that Lawrence Bishnoi was not found to have any role in the crime. Anmol Bishnoi operates separate gangs operating exclusively in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh. The government side told the court that Anmol Bishnoi was trying to portray himself as a gang leader.

A Mumbai Police official had said in November that they had proposed the extradition of Anmol Bishnoi after US authorities informed them that Anmol was in their country.

Both Lawrence and Anmol are absconding accused in the firing incident at Salman Khan’s house. In April, a look out circular was issued against Anmol, who took responsibility for the incident. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has paid Rs. A reward of ten lakhs has been declared. Lawrence Bishnoi is currently in Sabarmati jail in Gujarat.
