Dhaka/New Delhi, August 5 (HS). Amid heavy violence and protests in Bangladesh, India has issued an advisory for Indian citizens present there. The Indian Embassy in Dhaka issued an advisory on Sunday urging Indian citizens present in Bangladesh to remain alert and stay in touch.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that in view of the current developments, Indian nationals are strongly advised not to travel to Bangladesh until further notice. All Indian nationals in Bangladesh are advised to exercise extreme caution, restrict their movement and stay in touch with the Indian High Commission in Dhaka through emergency phone numbers 8801958383679, 8801958383680, 8801937400591.
Meanwhile, amid fresh violence in Bangladesh's Sylhet, the Indian Assistant High Commission (AHCI) said in an ex-post, “All Indian nationals, including students, residing in Sylhet under the jurisdiction of the Indian Assistant High Commission are requested to keep in touch with this office and advised to remain vigilant.” A helpline number was also shared for emergencies.
AHCI is a representative office of the Government of India in Sylhet. It is responsible for issuing visas and for the welfare of Indian nationals and bilateral trade within its consular jurisdiction (Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Sunamganj, Habiganj, Kishoreganj and Netorokona districts). AHCI functions under the general supervision of the High Commission of India, Dhaka.
