After 18 years, two accused arrested in the murder case of mother and twin daughters, CBI revealed

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two accused, giving a breakthrough in a much-discussed 18-year-old murder case. This case is related to the murder of a woman and her twin daughters in Anchal of Kollam district of Kerala. The arrested accused include Dibil Kumar and former Indian Army soldier Rajesh.

What is the matter?

  • Incident: In February 2006, Ranjini and her twin daughters were brutally murdered.
  • Accused: Dibil Kumar and Rajesh.
  • Relationship: Ranjini and Dibil Kumar were in a love affair. After Ranjini became pregnant, Dibil along with his friend Rajesh murdered her.
  • Identity: Both the accused escaped arrest for years with the help of fake identities.

Arrest made from Puducherry

After thorough investigation, CBI conducted raids in Puducherry and arrested both the accused.

  • Dibil Kumar: Resident of Anchal, Kollam district.
  • Rajesh: A resident of Kannur district and a former Indian Army soldier.

How did CBI handle the case?

  • In 2008, on the petition of the victim’s family, the case was handed over to CBI.
  • Kerala Police and CBI had already identified the accused during the investigation.
  • Due to fake identity, it took a long time to arrest the accused.

Judicial process and punishment

  • Both the accused were produced in Kochi court on Saturday, from where they were sent to judicial custody.
  • According to the prosecution: The accused have confessed to the crime.

Another big case in Kerala: CPI(M) workers punished

A special CBI court sentenced 10 CPI(M) workers to double life imprisonment in the 2019 murder case of two Youth Congress workers in Ernakulam, Kerala.

  • Case: Murder of two Youth Congress workers in Periya, Ernakulam district.
  • Punishment:
    • Double life imprisonment to 10 CPI(M) workers.
    • 5 years rigorous imprisonment to 4 leaders.
  • Fine: A fine of Rs 1 lakh each was imposed on 10 accused (accused nos. 1 to 8, 10 and 15).
