A small dead snake was found in the mid-day meal packet of Anganwadi

Mumbai: A small dead snake was reportedly found in midday meal packets meant for children at a government nursery school, anganwadi in Sangli district of western Maharashtra.

The vice-president of the state Anganwadi Employees Union said, the incident was reported by the parents of a child in Palus on Monday. However, no information has been received from the district administration in this regard.

Children aged six months to three years get dal-khichdi premix in mid-day meal packets at Anganwadis. Anganwadi workers distributed food packets in Palus on Monday, where the parents of a child claimed they found the little one dead. An Anganwadi 'sevika' (female worker) reported the incident to the authorities.

It is reported that the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Sangli Zila Parishad and other officials of the Food Safety Committee visited the Anganwadi and sent the packet for laboratory-testing. However, no official has given any clear explanation on this matter nor have they been contacted.
