Business: Nifty gains for 13th consecutive session, both Sensex and Nifty at new peak | News India

Nifty today closed at its highest level for the fourth consecutive day led by gains in IT and financial stocks, taking the Nifty's gaining streak to 13 consecutive sessions.

Bajaj Finserv, popularly known as Bajaj Twins, rose 3.23 per cent and Bajaj Finance rose 3.19 per cent today. Apart from this, HCL Tech also closed up 3.13 per cent. These stocks were the top gainers on both NSE and BSE. At the same time, Hindu fell 2.55 per cent and Dr. Reddy's Lab fell 2.32 per cent. The volatility index rose sharply by 4.98 per cent to 14.06 today from Friday's 13.39. Even though the Sensex and Nifty reached new highs today, seven of the 14 sector indices on the Nifty closed with a decline. Nifty Metal fell 1.04 per cent and Pharma fell 0.99 per cent, while FMCG closed 0.82 per cent, IT 0.44 per cent and PSU Bank closed 0.51 per cent higher. Today, 18 out of 30 Sensex stocks closed with gains, while 27 out of 50 Nifty stocks closed with gains.

The Sensex today opened 359 points higher at its all-time high of 82,725, after which amid slight fluctuations and continuous decline, the index made an intra-day low of 82,440. Thus, after a total fluctuation of 285, the Sensex finally closed at 82,560 with a gain of 194 points or 0.24 per cent. Which is its highest closing level. Nifty also opened 98 points higher at its all-time high of 25,333 and after making an intra-day low of 25,235 and ending the 98-point swing, closed 43 points or 0.17 per cent higher at 25,278. Which is also its highest closing level.

Mid-cap and small-cap stocks underperformed today amid a rally in large-caps. However, the BSE mid-cap index hit a new intraday high of 49,306, but ended the day lower by 16 points or 0.03 per cent. The small-cap index also fell 260 points or 0.47 per cent to close at 55,760. The BSE SME IPO index made a comeback today and closed at 1,09,365, up 1,301 points or 1.20 per cent.

Out of the 4,187 stocks traded on the BSE today, 1,776 stocks rose, 2,262 stocks declined while 149 stocks closed flat. The market capitalisation of companies listed on the BSE today rose to a new record high of Rs. 464.85 lakh crore or $5.54 trillion as compared to Friday's Rs. 464.39 lakh crore, an increase of just Rs. 46,000 crore.

FIIs net bought Rs 1,735 crore

In the first session of September month today, FIIA Indian Stock Market today made a net purchase of Rs. 1,735 crores, while DII made a net purchase of Rs. 356 crores.

Sensex opened at a new high of 82,725 and Nifty at 25,333.

M-cap hits new high of Rs 464.85 lakh crore with gain of just Rs 46,000 crore

Small cap stocks took a beating, the index closed down 260 points

The midcap index fell 16 points as against a 194-point gain in the Sensex

BSE SME IPO index closed up 1,301 points

The volatility index rose 5 per cent to 14.06 from 13.39.

7 out of 14 sector indices fell, Nifty Metal 1.04 percent, Pharma 0.99 percent

The FMCG index gained 0.82%, PSU Bank gained 0.51%, and IT gained 0.44%.
