British Medical Journal claims: According to a study report of women doctors published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ), the risk of suicide among women doctors is 76 percent higher than the general public. The study analyzed data from 20 countries. These facts prove that women doctors around the world are forced to work under a lot of pressure, which is adversely affecting their physical and mental health. Depending on the country and region, the risk is low and nowhere is ideal.
Studies of the last few years have shown that on an average 1 doctor commits suicide every day in the US. In the United Kingdom, a doctor commits suicide every 10 days. For this study, researchers associated with the University of Vienna looked at 39 research papers published in 20 countries from 1960 to 31 March 2024. Shocking figures came to light when suicide incidents of female doctors were compared year after year.
The study also states that although the suicide rate among doctors has decreased in the last few years, the suicide rate among female doctors is very high. However, the resources and context used for the study include Europe, America and Australia. Doctors have a thirst for fulfillment. There is also a lot of competition, so stress makes you feel guilty. This affects the self-esteem of the person. There is also a fear of failure.
Women doctors in particular need to address the long-standing problem of stress and suicide risk. There is also a need to understand the emotional and psycho-scientific needs of the workforce in order to improve medical regulations to maintain a balance between work and life. It is important to find a solution so that no one has to suffer pain silently.
