A Bangladesh court on Monday barred 17 former ministers and 9 MPs of the Sheikh Hasina government, including former Foreign Minister Mohammad Hasan Mahmud, from leaving the country. According to media reports, an anti-corruption organization had filed a petition accusing these former ministers and MPs of corruption.
The order was passed after hearing the applications of the ACC
According to media reports, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain gave this order on Monday after hearing the applications of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The commission's public prosecutors Mir Ahmed Ali Salam and Mahmud Hussain Jahangir confirmed the travel ban on these former ministers and members of parliament.
Who was banned?
According to the report, those who have been barred from leaving the country include former Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, former State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hameed, former State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud, former State Minister for ICT (Information Communication Technology) Junaid Ahmed Palak and former State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossain.
Many cabinet ministers left the country
The important thing is that many top leaders, MPs and cabinet ministers of Sheikh Hasina's Awami League party have left the country. Many other ministers have left their government or private residences and are hiding in safe places.
