Paralympics 2024: Indian para badminton player Suhas LVI performed brilliantly and won the silver medal in the Paris Paralympics. 41-year-old Suhas, a 2007 batch IAS officer, lost 9-21, 13-21 to Lucas Mazur of France in the final of the men's singles SL4 category. Although Suhas could not bring the gold medal, he managed to win a medal in the Paralympics for the second consecutive time. Suhas also won the silver medal in the Tokyo Paralympics. Lucas had defeated Suhas three years ago as well.

This is India's 12th medal at the Paris Paralympics and fourth in badminton. Before Suhas, Nitesh Kumar won gold in the SL3 category, while Thulasimathi Murugesan and Manisha Ramdas won silver and bronze respectively in the women's singles SU5 category.

Manisha defeated Denmark's Katherine Rosengren 21-12, 21-8 in a one-sided contest in the bronze medal match. Murugesan faced China's Yang Qi Jia in the final, where the Indian could not challenge her opponent and had to settle for the silver medal after losing 17-21, 10-21.

Manisha won the game in 25 minutes
It took 19-year-old Manisha just 25 minutes to defeat Rosengren. Manisha dominated the entire match and did not give any chance to the opponent. She took the lead in the first game and won the game in 13 minutes, after which she won the second game in 12 minutes to win the bronze medal. With this, Manisha has become the first Indian woman player to win a medal in badminton event at the Paralympics. However, Murugesan also joined this list soon. Manisha defeated Murugesan in the semi-finals.

Murugesan could not maintain the good start till the end.
Murugesan is the first Indian woman to reach the final of a badminton event at the Paralympics. In the final, Murugesan gave a good challenge to the Chinese player and soon equalized the score to 4-4. At one point, Murugesan had also taken a lead of two points, but Qiu Jia managed to break this lead. After this, the Chinese player gave a tough challenge to Murugesan and it did not take much time for him to win the match.

Murugesan said, I am happy with the silver medal but also a little disappointed that I could not perform my best. I made a lot of mistakes. I should have won the first game. I lost one or two points due to drift and then some simple mistakes gave him the lead.
