The waiver program applies to various types of visas, including expired residence visas and tourist visas. Apart from this, people living without documents also come under its purview. However, people who enter the country illegally are excluded from the program.
Know what is the amnesty scheme
Under the programme, applicants who wish to return to India can apply for an Emergency Certificate (EC) and those who wish to regularise their residence status can apply for a short-term passport. “Applicants can request for EC at the Consulate free of cost,” the Indian Consulate in Dubai said in a statement on Saturday. Facilitation counters will be set up at the Consulate General of India in Dubai and Al Aweer Immigration Centre. The facilitation counter at the Consulate will start functioning from September 2.
