In a video that went viral on social media, people can be seen breaking into the building, looting and vandalising property while the shop's employees watched helplessly. The store opened at 3 pm and within half an hour, all the goods were looted and property was also heavily damaged.
The grand opening of a clothes shop called Dream Bazaar in Gulistan-e-Jauhar in the city was heavily promoted on social media and created a lot of buzz with huge discounts being offered. Seeing the crowd going out of control, the shop management chased away the crowd trying to close the shop and within half an hour of opening the shop, the shop was completely ransacked. Some people even made a video of themselves while committing the robbery.
The store owned by a Pakistani businessman living abroad suffered heavy losses due to looting and vandalism. Despite the massive uproar, the absence of the local police was noticeable. The police later claimed that they were not informed about the event in advance, but they swung into action as soon as they were informed.
The store's management expressed deep disappointment over the incident and criticized the destructive behavior of the crowd, saying that there is no foreign investment in Pakistan and when it does happen, such incidents happen.
