Jerusalem, September 2 (HS). Israel's largest trade union has called for a general strike on Monday to press for a ceasefire after the death of six hostages in Gaza.
The Histadrut trade union, which represents 800,000 workers in sectors such as health, transport and banking, said the strike would begin on Monday morning to increase pressure on the government to agree to a ceasefire so that the remaining hostages held by Hamas in Gaza can be returned.
This will be the first general strike since Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7. A general strike was also held last year, after which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had to postpone his controversial plan of judicial reforms.
